Life presents us all with issues and difficulties - children, family, health, finances, loss of loved ones. Add to these universal concerns a myriad of challenges presented by living in a new culture, surrounded by a new language, with a mix of unfamiliar norms and expectations, trying to assimilate but determined to maintain your core identity. At times, the burden can be too great for anyone and the sense of loneliness overwhelming.

OMID Multicultural Institute for Development is a full-service family enrichment center dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for individuals and families in Southern California.

At OMID we have developed a multicultural, integrative, multi-level and collaborative therapeutic approach, as well as educational and training experiences, to enhance the well being and resiliency of individuals and families generationally and across a lifespan.

We work co-operatively with primary care and specialist physicians to incorporate cognitive-behavioral interventions, biofeedback, and healthy life-style coaching. Our goal is to help our client adhere to medical treatment, to improve the patient's quality of life, and to ameliorate the emotional suffering that often accompanies chronic or debilitating medical problems.

A comprehensive and culturally informed evaluation is the cornerstone of all our therapeutic encounters. We provide a number of forms of evaluation. The individualized therapeutic plan will be determined by the evaluation results and may include counseling, psychiatric services, life skills classes, participation in community programs, and/or social services support. OMID also reaches out to the community at large with cultural awareness and community wellness seminars.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life for underserved and distressed families, particularly Iranian-Americans, by providing culturally and linguistically responsive mental health and social services.
